It was with unbelievable jubilation that Nigerians received the news that they are not to pay any crazy bill again; we were like they that dream.
Infact, people could not believe their ears and eyes when they heard/read that they are not to pay more than 1800 Naira per household until they are issued a prepaid metre. The prepaid metre is a pay as you use device which ensures customers do not get cheated.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC gave this directory and issued an ultimatum to Power Distribution Companies to provide all households with prepaid meters by April 2020.
Nigerians without prepaid meters have been subjected to paying high fees for darkness as most hours of the day are without power, that is if there is “light” at all.
The prepaid metres were initially distributed when Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) was Minister of Power, Works and Housing before distribution stopped. Prior to this new development, households have been made to pay as much as 40,000 Naira in order to obtain a prepaid metre.
We hope the Government who gave this new order will enforce it and prevent victimization of customers by the electric suppliers.
This indeed is a good turn of events under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. What do you think?
